Pro-'Lens' Group to Host 'Lens' Light Show
The pro-"Lens" event will be from 8 - 11 p.m. Saturday.
In an attempt to showcase one of the possible features on the "Lens" pier design, the Build the Pier PAC is hosting an underwater lighting show Saturday night.Â
According to the Build the Pier's Facebook page, "Two of St. Pete's local businesses, Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc. and Deep Glow Technologies, Inc., are collaborating to create a unique lighting experience giving residents a real glimpse into one of the many opportunities the new pier will offer before making a decision on Aug. 27 at the voting polls."Â
The event will be from 8 - 11 p.m. Saturday at the Vinoy Basin near 2nd Avenue Northeast and Bayshore Drive. Â
The underwater feature has been a focal but evolving piece of the "Lens" pier design.Â
According to the city's "Lens" website, the underwater feature is "Still under study and review, the Underwater Feature offers an exciting opportunity at the new Pier, as well as an important education asset to residents around Tampa Bay. The Underwater Feature is intended to function as a habitat enhancement and learning attraction."
Maltzan architects originally called for and underwater garden/reef but changed the design to a lighting feature after concerns of visibility in the waters of Tampa Bay.Â
The Build the Pier PAC has raised more than $40,000, including $50,000 of in-kind contributions, since the campaign began a month ago, according to a news release.
