Public Hearing Set On 40th Avenue Northeast Bridge Project

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The City of St. Petersburg will hold a public hearing to discuss the 40th Avenue Northeast bridge project Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. with a formal presentation at 7 p.m. at the North East Park Baptist Church, 3737 1st St. NE in St. Petersburg.

Residents will have a chance to review project displays and speak with project team members about the proposed project improvements.

The public will be able to comment on the location, conceptual design and social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.

This hearing is being held as part of a current project development and environment study that is being conducted to address structural deficiencies of the existing 40th Avenue NE Bridge over Placido Bayou. The current bridge structure was constructed in 1961 and widened in 1990. It is considered structurally deficient by the Florida Department of Transportation and is scheduled for replacement.

The project extends from 12th Street NE to west of 13th Way NE. The new bridge will accommodate two lanes of traffic, bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

The total cost is estimated at about $11.3 million.

Draft study documents and other information are available for review online and at Shore Acres Recreation Center, 4230 Shore Acres Blvd. NE, and St. Petersburg Main Library, 3745 9th Ave. N,through Sept. 20. Comments postmarked on or before Sept. 20 will become a part of the public hearing record.
