'Rainbow' Exhibit: A Look At The Mize Gallery's Pride Show
Celebrate Pride Month at the Mize Gallery in St. Petersburg as its June exhibit, "Rainbow," opens Friday night.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — For the first time since March 2020, the Mize Gallery is having a face-to-face opening for its Pride month show, "Rainbow."
June's show features new works by more than 39 LGBTQ artists who created works using a color of the rainbow.
"Each artist in the show was given a circular canvas," owner Chad Mize told Patch, "and then assigned colors. I had each artist give me their top four colors. Typically, everybody got their first or second choice. The subject matter was up to them, there was no subject. But they just had to use primarily that color so when you look at their work you see what color it is."

Colors assigned to the artists includes red, orange, yellow, green, aqua, blue, purple and pink.
Normally, Mize gives artists a theme, and they have to create a work based on the theme. Recent past themes have included, "Nude," "Something 2020," and others. The artists' works in this show were inspired by their assigned color.

Mize started hosting his opening shows virtually via Facebook and Instagram when the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020 in the U.S. On weekends when the gallery is open to the public, he required masks and a small number of people in at once for viewings of artwork. Friday night that changes to feel more like pre-Covid.
Twelve people at a time will be allowed inside to see the show, and Mize isn't requiring masks, although he would appreciate it if you do wear a mask.
UpTown Eats located next door to the gallery will provide drinks. Tables and chairs will also be set up outside. Mize said he will have a tent set up near the tables and chairs that will feature LGBTQ swag.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. Mize Gallery, 689 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N, St. Petersburg, is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibit runs June 4-June 27. For more information, visit Mize Gallery.
