ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The Tropicana Field Stadium will soon resemble its 2019 pre-pandemic version with more fans and fewer masks.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced its fan capacity will increase to 20,000 June 8, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The current capacity is 9,000. The Rays will host the Washington Nationals June 8. With the increase, the upper deck will close again. It has only been open this season to provide more seating for fans during its current max capacity due to the pandemic.

After the most recent COVID-guidelines announced by the Centers for Disease Control, the Rays said on its website that fully vaccinated fans have the option to not wear a mask. For fans who have not been vaccinated, they are required to continue to wear masks in the stadium except when they are eating or drinking.
