ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg residents 16 years old and older can receive COVID-19 vaccines starting Monday.

An executive order recently signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis lowered the age from 40 to 16 for all Floridians. The Pinellas County Health Department reported that the rest of this week's COVID-19 appointments have booked at its facility, but appointments are open starting April 12.

Sixteen-year-olds and Seventeen-year-olds can get the shot under certain conditions listed below, according to health officials:

  • Minors under 18 are only eligible for the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine per the Food and Drug Administration.
  • They must be accompanied by a parent or caretaker during their appointment.
  • The parent/caretaker must create their own account in the Patient Portal and check “yes” for registering a ward or minor while creating a profile.
  • All DOH-Pinellas/Pinellas County supported sites booked through the Patient Portal are distributing Pfizer-BioNTech.
