St. Petersburg Assists ‘Sensible Sprinklers’

The City of St. Petersburg offers a free program to check residents' sprinklers.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The annual dry season has arrived, and the City of St. Petersburg wants to help its residents make sure they’re not wasting water when they water their yards.

Through a partnership with the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the city is encouraging its residents to engage in good watering habits with the Sensible Sprinkling Program.

“It’s a great way to help our customers understand and enhance sprinkler systems, “said Chris Claus, the City of St. Petersburg Water Conservation Coordinator. “This not only helps keep (residents’) lawns and gardens more appropriately irrigated, it helps save water – our most precious natural resource.”

The program offers a free checkup to the city’s water customers with operable in-ground sprinkler systems using potable water, well water or reclaimed water. Select customers will receive a sprinkler system evaluation with site-specific recommendations, a diagram of the sprinkler layout, water conservation information, an automatic shut-off hose nozzle and installation of a rain sensor if one isn’t on site.

To participate, City of St. Petersburg residents must complete the Sensible Sprinkling application and e-mail it to sensiblesprinkling@stpete.org.
