Widespread Traffic Signal Outages In St. Petersburg: Hurricane Irma
St. Petersburg is facing power outages that are affecting traffic signals throughout the city, and more Tuesday updates from police.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg is still dealing with power outages that are affecting traffic signals throughout the city, officials said Tuesday. On Monday there were 115 intersections without power, compared to 77 intersections without power Tuesday. (Subscribe to the St. Pete Patch to follow Hurricane Irma news.)
Police have placed an estimated 100 portable stop signs and 24 generators at intersections all over the city. Officials have also requested assistance from the County EOC for additional generators and officers to help with traffic control. Officers are working on 12-hour emergency shifts, police said.
City crews are working diligently to collect debris from neighborhoods. Residents are asked to place tree limbs behind the curb, off the street and in front of the house. Please do not mix-in other storm debris with vegetation, officials said.

Residents do not need to call city crews about debris, as officials are working on it and will eventually get around to all neighborhoods next week.

There are currently 66 people in the special needs shelter at John Hopkins Middle School, officials said. Fire Rescue is checking 37 addresses to make sure special needs residents have power before they are transported back home.
