City Plans 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The ceremony is set to start at 9 a.m. at the city's permanent 9/11 memorial display.

The Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue Squad is planning a memorial ceremony dedicated those who were slain in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The memorial ceremony starts at 9 a.m. at the city’s 9/11 memorial display at the city public safety facility at 444 Huey Street.  City officials are expected to speak.

This will also be the first year the Fire Rescue Squad has its own permanent 9/11 memorial display at which to host a ceremony.

The display, which includes a pattern of bricks forming a badge, a model of the World Trade Center and a stone memorial slab, was completed last year after the anniversary 9/11.

The Fire Rescue Squad obtained a  scrap of the Trade Center and used it  as part of the sculpture.
