Half Sunk, Burnt Shrimp Boat Removed From Sponge Docks

After months, the Skye Marie is being taken out of Anclote River.

Tarponites can be happy knowing that the half sunk, badly burnt shrimp boat involved in the May 14 fire is being removed from the sponge docks.

According to Bay News 9, Pinellas County officials stepped in to have the boat removed as the owner of the boat did not have the money to have it done.

Bay News 9 reported that the county has a certain amount of funds set aside for cases like the sponge docks fire. This particular instance will cost the county about $68,000.

The Skye Marie was docked at the sponge docks when it caught fire a few months back. After hours of battling the blaze, a team of local fire officials and members of the U.S. Coast Guard were able to put the fire to rest.

According to Bay News 9, the removal process has begun and is expected to continue throughout the rest of the week.
