Tarpon Springs Officer Thanh Nguyen and Dobies participated in national competition.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL – Tarpon Springs K-9 Dobies was the leader of the pack this week in Philadelphia at the USPCA National Detector Dog Certification and Field Trials.

The team of Dobies and Officer Thanh “Tommy” Nguyen finished in first place for Region Team, third place in Room Search and took home the coveted “Top Dog” award for first place in the nation for narcotics detection.

The event brought together more than 100 police K-9 teams throughout the United States and Canada to vie for national certification and compete for individual awards. The teams that participated achieved a qualifying score in their home state and region. The teams were tested for their skills in narcotics, explosives, cadaver or accelerant detection.

The United States Police Canine Association, which sponsored the event, is a non-profit association that provides training and certifications for federal, state and local law enforcement K-9 programs.
