Naked Arrestee’s Name Released

Officials have released the name of the man arrested this morning following a streaking incident near the Tarpon Springs Golf Course that ended with foray into Pasco that included an assault on a store clerk and a crash with a deputy’s cruiser.

According to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office media release, Abraham Andres Luna, 30, now faces a long list of charges. They include attempted auto burglary, aggravated assault, battery, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing to elude, resisting without violence, driving while license revoked and violation of probation.

The incident began yesterday around 6:53 p.m. when the Tarpon Springs Police Department got a call about a bald, white male that was reportedly running through the 700 block of Meres Boulevard with nothing on but a pair of construction boots, according to Capt. Jeffrey Young of the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

"He was seen by a couple individuals that officers spoke to," said Young. 

The unidentified man allegedly continued to run south onto the Tarpon Springs Golf Course where officials say they were unable to catch him.

Information regarding the case was passed on to the midnight shift, according to Young as officials remained on the lookout for the alleged streaker. 

Later in the evening, Young said that officials attempted to make a routine traffic stop on a vehicle that was operating without headlights on U.S. Highway 19.

The vehicle did not stop and only sped up. According to Young, the sergeant pursuing the vehicle backed off since the stop was a "minor traffic infraction."

The sergeant immediately notified Pasco County officials of the fleeing car. 

At 4:25 a.m., Luna stopped at the 7-Eleven at 1324 U.S. 19 in Holiday and was “completely nude,” according to a Pasco County arrest report. He charged a 7-Eleven employee and began striking him in the face with fists. He also scratched the man's arm, the report said.

After he was chased from the store, he got into his van, backed it up and started driving toward the store’s front entrance. One employee was at the cash register and the other (the one the man attacked) had just locked the door. They were afraid the vehicle was going to ram the store's front door. But the vehicle stopped short of the store, according to the report.

Luna got out of his van and tried to break into a vehicle of the 7-Eleven employee he had attacked. He then got back into his own vehicle and fled.

A Pasco deputy then saw the vehicle headed south with its headlights off.  She then said it appeared the driver was trying to flip the vehicle. She activated her lights and siren, but the van didn’t stop.

The chase continued with the van eventually driving north in the southbound lane of 19.  At 19 and Moog, the van rammed a different deputy’s cruiser

The deputy was not injured.

“This could have ended badly,” said Pasco Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin.

Tobin said he don’t have any information about why Luna was naked. He said Tarpon Springs police were still looking at the case, but he was unaware of any further charges pending.

Luna, of Tarpon Springs, was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail this morning.
