Oldsmar Man Accused Of Repeatedly Raping Girl On His Birthday

OLDSMAR, FL — Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested an Oldsmar man accused of sexually battering a girl under the age of 16 while celebrating his birthday.

Brian Winthrop, 40, was arrested Thursday in Leesburg.

The investigation began on April 1 after detectives learned a girl under the age of 16 had been sexually battered several times over the course of an evening.

Detectives said Winthrop and the girl consumed several alcoholic beverages and smoked marijuana while celebrating Winthrop's 40th birthday. When the girl became sick and went to bed, detectives said Winthrop climbed in the same bed and sexually battered her throughout the night.

When detectives attempted to arrest Winthrop, he fled to Leesburg where he was pursued by a Leesburg Police K9 and arrested. He is being held in the Lake County Jail.
