Tarpon Marching Band Places Fourth in National Competition

The Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band rested among the top five in the nation on Saturday night.

Young Tarponites of Tarpon High can give themselves a pat on the back after placing fourth among 87 schools in Indianapolis at the Grand National Championship competition on Saturday night.

With a final score of 93.8, the marching band was just shy of the third place contestants from Avon High School in Indiana who scored a 93.9.

Tarpon Springs High was the only Florida-based squad to compete in the top 12.

The competition lasted a grueling four days with Tarpon's final performance landing just a half hour before awards were announced at 11 p.m. on Saturday.

From the original 97 teams that competed, 30 were selected to perform in the semi-final round. Only 12 were chosen from the semi's and went on to perform in the Grand National finals.
