Tarpon Springs Woman Recovering After Carjacking

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — Tarpon Springs police officers responded to the 600 block of Athens Street on Wednesday at 2:08 p.m. for a report of a carjacking.

According to police, a 2011 Lexus was parked on Athens Street and the driver went into a business while he left his vehicle running with his spouse inside. The spouse was seated in the front passenger seat when police said Lorenzo B. Butler Jr., 27, of Clearwater approached the car and opened the unlocked driver's side.

He then entered the car and kicked the spouse from the car as she yelled for help.

Butler fled in the Lexus but was arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office while driving north on U.S. 19 in the area of Country Club Drive about 20 minutes later.

Butler was charged with battery on a person 65 years or older and carjacking. He was transported to the Pasco County Jail.
