Tarpon Springs Pedestrian Injured on Alt. U.S. 19

A pedestrian who was hit by a car on Alt. U.S. 19 was knocked into another pedestrian Lori Baker, 41, of Tarpon Springs late Saturday night in Palm Harbor. Baker was hospitalized for her injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An incident on Alt. U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor Saturday night sent two pedestrians to the hospital, one was a Tarpon Springs woman.

Amanda Chakos, 28, of New Middletown, OH, was attempting to walk across Alt. U.S. 19 when she was hit by a car. Chakos was just north of Alderman Road and was crossing in the westbound direction, when she walked into the path of a 2012 Honda Pilot traveling southbound around 11:53 p.m. on April 27. Chakos was not in a crosswalk, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The impact threw Chakos into another pedestrian, Lori Baker, who was also injured.

Chakos was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition. Baker, 41, of Tarpon Springs was transported to Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Equbal Kalani, 53, of Dunedin, was not injured. Kalani's Honda Pilot sustained $2,500 in damages, reports indicate.
