Twistee Treat to Make Tarpon Sweet in 2013

The Florida-based franchise is opening its first north Pinellas location in Tarpon Springs.

Twistee Treat will be opening a new store on Tarpon Avenue, between U.S. 19 and Huey Avenue. The location is in the plaza that houses Wal-Mart, Big Lots and Staples.

Corey Balzer, president of Twistee Treat, confirmed that Tarponites can count on looking for the 23-foot-tall ice cream cone building sometime next year.

He expects to break ground in the first quarter of 2013 and hopes to open the doors early in the spring season.

The building, formerly a Checkers, will be demolished so that the famous, larger-than-life ice cream cone building can be built.

"We are very excited to move into this market, and looking forward to getting open!," Balzer wrote in an email regarding the new location in Tarpon Springs.

According to Balzer, the Tarpon Springs location will be company owned and operated.
