Who's Running For Tarpon Springs Mayor? Candidates Forum Set

The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County will host a forum for the Tarpon Springs candidates for mayor and commission seat 3.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL -- The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County will host a forum for the Tarpon Springs candidates for mayor and commission seat 3 on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Tarpon Springs City Hall Auditorium, 324 E. Pine St.

The event will begin with an informal opportunity for attendees to meet the candidates from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Attendees will also be able to submit their questions during that time.

The candidates will participate in the forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County will be in charge of the rules and procedures of operation for the forum and will provide the moderator and timer for the event.

Voters will have an opportunity to choose a mayor and commissioner during nonpartisan elections on March 12.

Former mayor and current city commissioner David Archie is taking on incumbent Mayor Chris Alahouzos. Archie couldn't run for mayor at that time due to term limits.

Archie was elected as the first black mayor in Pinellas County in 2010 after serving several terms as a city commissioner.

Alahouzos was elected mayor in 2016 after defeating former mayor Frank DiDonato.

Contenders for the city commission 3 seat are Connor Donovan and incumbent Susan Miccio-Kikta, who was elected to a three-year term in 2016.

The deadline to vote in Tarpon Springs' municipal elections is Feb. 11. Tarpon Springs will not offer early voting for these elections. However, residents can vote at their convenience with a mail ballot.
