13 Demonstrators Charged in Buckhead Police Protest

Charges have been filed against 13 protesters who blocked an intersection near Lenox Square Mall during a police protest Saturday.

More than a dozen demonstrators have been released from jail after blocking an intersection in front of Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead Saturday.

According to Department spokesman John Chafee, approximately 50 protesters protesting “the killing of unarmed black men and children by police” began a protest at Lenox Square Mall’s Peachtree Street entrance around 3:10 p.m. Some of the protesters laid in the roadway with their arms locked together by PVC pipe, The Associated Press reports.

Police reportedly blocked protesters in with their cars and told them they were unlawfully blocking traffic and needed to disperse. Chafee said 13 protesters who did not clear the intersection were charged with unlawful assembly and obstructing highways, streets, sidewalks or other public passages.
