15-Year-Old Charged With Felony Murder In Apartment Shooting
The teenager is one of two suspects being sought in connection with the Buckhead aparment shooting that killed 35-year-old Kevin Humes.
ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta Police officials have arrested and charged a 15-year-old suspect with felony murder in connection with a deadly shooting earlier this month at an apartment complex in Buckhead.
The boy, whose name was not released by police on Tuesday, was arrested on Saturday and remains in custody, police said Tuesday. The murder charge comes after Kevin Humes, 35, was shot and killed outside of the Tremont apartments off of Habersham Road on May 16.
According to police, Humes was shot in the chest after two men in a car yelled, “Get him” just before he was shot. Police investigators believe Humes was the target of a robbery. Humes was found by police at 12:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Go Fund Me effort in Humes’s memory has already raised more than $28,000 as of Tuesday afternoon. According to the page, Humes had only recently moved to Atlanta after being promoted at UPS, where he worked for more than 15 years. The page said that the fundraising effort is to Humes' family with returning him to Philadelphia and to increase the reward total beyond $10,000.
“Kevin was fun, genuine, caring and loved by so many people, the page reads. “Despite being hundreds of miles from his family, he talked with them every day. He loved to be out with friends watching sports and listening to live music. He had a playful spirit that came out when he would play with his nieces and nephews teaching them tricks that only uncles can. If given the chance he would have spent his weekend golfing and enjoying the outdoors.”
