2016 Walk to School Day: Who's Walking in Buckhead, Atlanta?
Almost 5,000 schools are participating in the event on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Here's what happening in Buckhead and Atlanta.
Several Buckhead and Atlanta city schools are participating in the 2016 International Walk to School Day, set for Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016.
The event has been held since 1997 as a way to encourage families and communities to support year-round safe routes to schools.
The first event was called Walk Our Children to School Day. This year, almost 5,000 schools from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, are participating.

- Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School
- Burgess-Peterson Academy
- Charles R. Drew Charter School
- Fernbank Elementary School
- Inman Middle School
- Mary Lin Elementary School
- Morningside Elementary School
- Morris Brandon Elementary School
- Oak Grove Elementary School
- Parkside Elemenary School
- Rivers Elementary School
- Springdale Park Elementary School
- Thomasville Heights Elementary School
- Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy
Next year's event will be held Oct. 10, and Walk to School Day 2019 is set for Oct. 2, 2019.
