ART PAPERS Art Auction Set For February

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta's largest contemporary-art auction is set for next month. The 19th annual ART PAPERS Art Auction will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Southern Exchange Ballrooms.

The ballrooms are located at 200 Peachtree St. NW.

On Wednesday, the host committee co-chairs for this year's auction were announced. Members for the 2018 auction are:

• Atlanta-based artist Radcliffe Bailey and Leslie Parks Bailey, a chef and daughter of renowed photographer Gordon Parks
• Doug Shipman, president and CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center, and Dr. Bijal Shah
• John Shlesiger, a commercial real estate professional and vice chairman of CBRE Group, and Sara Shlesinger, a long-time arts fundraiser, Carlos Museum board member and co-host of the 2017 UNICEF fundraiser

The auction will be held from 8-11 p.m. in The Davison Ballroom in the Southern Exchange, an event space in the Philip Schutze-designed former Macy's department store in downtown Atlanta.

In its 19th year, the auction will feature work by more than 200 established and emerging artists from Atlanta, around the United States and overseas. The event will feature food from top Atlanta restaurants, a live DJ, late-night dancing and a cash bar.

The evening starts with a "VIP Preview" from 6-8 p.m., at which buyers may purchase art pieces instantly for a percentage above retail. Last year's auction, at Ponce City Market, hosted more than 1,100 people and raised more than $275,000 to support the ART PAPERS publication. ART PAPERS gave back more than $41,000 in artist commissions through the sale of auctioned works.

ART PAPERS, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization, is an independent critical voice from the South documenting, examining, and presenting contemporary art and culture in the world today.

Tickets to the art auction and party are $50 in advance and $75 at the door. VIP host committee tickets are $300 for a single and $500 for a couple.
