Atlanta Council Member Won't Seek Re-Election

Yolanda Adrean said she will look for other ways to continue her lifelong passion of serving the community.

ATLANTA, GA -- Atlanta City Council member Yolanda Adrean has announced she will not seek re-election to the seat she's held for several years.

Adrean said Wednesday that she has made the decision to "serve our community as a private citizen, and will not be seeking re-election as a City Council member."

"The decision was not easy," Adrean said. "I have found service to you to be the most satisfying and richest experience of my life and will always be grateful to each of you for allowing me to serve you."

Adrean, first elected to the seat in 2009, said she's been honored to serve the northwest area of Atlanta for the last several years. Her passion, she added, is driven by her values instilled in her at an early age to serve others. Over the years, Adrean said she's remained passionate about good governance and fiscal responsibility, noting one of the main reasons why she ran for office was due to the "appalling state" of the city's financial affairs.

"My commitment to quality of life issues is unabated, and as a council member, I have been particularly proud of partnering with others to expand paths around parks, open green space, and build sidewalks that connect communities to schools, parks and each other," she added.

Once her term expires, Adrean will join her husband, Lee, in retirement, and will "look to new opportunities to continue my life long journey of service."
