About the Photo and the Gun:

(l to r) Joe Thomas, with Mansions, Gardens, and Ghosts Buckhead History Tour event and Gold Sponsor Arrow Exterminating, John Whitley "Ghost" with the gun that shot the Buckhead Buck in the 1840s, and Buckhead Heritage Board Member Charlotte Margolies.

Buckhead Heritage was able to bring “The Gun” that is believed to have shot the buck Buckhead is named for back to Atlanta on loan this spring. The Whitleys are reported to have shot a large buck and left the head on a tree, giving the area the name Buckhead. There are conflicting reports as to whether it was Mrs. or Mr. Whitley that actually shot the buck.
