College football is over, but Oxford, MS is still the place to be

When you hear Oxford, MS you may be thinking about Ole Miss football - but there is much more to do here, where great restaurants abound.

Oxford, MS is most often thought of as a football town, but that is selling them short. This small Southern haven is jam-packed with award winning restaurants. Fill the space between breakfast, lunch and dinner with inspiring art galleries, literary treasures, and a bit of history.

Here are our three favorite stops in Oxford, MS perfect for a couples' roadtrip from Atlanta:

Oxford Treehouse Gallery. Vivian and Walter – the owners and amazing artists in their own right – have created an oasis just a few miles from the downtown square. The eclectic gallery includes art work of varying mediums from a great number of regional artists, primarily from Mississippi.

Rowan Oak. You can tour the home of Oxford’s William Faulkner, Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize winning author. See where he and Estelle raised their children and made a life for themselves. I loved seeing Faulkner’s own handwriting on the wall, both by the telephone and in an upstairs room where he outlined A Fable, the story for which he won the Pulitzer.

Square Books. This isn't just any ole' bookstore. It was named Book Store of the Year by Publisher’s Weekly. Over 2,000 writers have appeared to read and/or sign books since 1979, including Oxford resident John Grisham who visited here for his very first book signing of A Time To Kill. And if you visit on a Thursday, be sure to check if Thacker Mountain Radio Hour is on tap. You'll want to see this!
