Donna DiGiorgio Digs into the Trash to Make Art
Behind the Buck: Meet Donna DiGiorgio, a Birmingham artist with an environmental message.

Â
1) Tell us about your Buck.Â
Hi name is Mr Green Stuff. He was inspired because of my desire to recycle and re-purpose different items. He is bottle capped and corked and has old metal all over him. His whole message is about recycling and using your bicycle or your feet instead of a car, and different things like that.

2) What inspired you to approach your Buck this way? Â
My art is all about recycling.

3) In general, where do you find the inspiration for your art?
In a trash dump! I actually get a lot of my inspiration from old pieces of metal or things like that that for some people would be just an old piece of metal but to me would be a beak to a duck or an elephant’s head or things like that. My inspiration comes from the items that I find.
4) How did you become an artist?Â
Luck. A lot of luck. I'm always looking for ways to not throw trash out and look for better ways to reuse things.
I studied phography in high school but no real formal training. I call myself a folk artist.
5) Is there anything else you'd like to share with Buckhead Patch readers?Â
I have a show at the Birmingham Art Walk, Sept. 7-8.
