Georgia State, Emory University Make Decision On Wednesday Classes

Georgia State and Emory University decide whether to cancel class on Wednesday.

ATLANTA, GA -- Officials at Atlanta's largest universities weighed whether to cancel school because of the effects of Hurricane Irma. Georgia State University and Emory University both announced Tuesday that classes will resume Wednesday.

"All Georgia State campuses, except Decatur, will be open Wednesday," GSU tweeted. "Decatur campus delayed until noon, check back at 9 a.m. for status."

Emory said it will open its doors on Wednesday as well, but it added that the closure did not necessarily extend to the hospital.

Also on Sunday, Gov. Nathan Deal expanded a state of emergency for all of Georgia's 159 counties. He also announced that all state government offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, state schedules were expected to return to normal.
