Georgia Weather Forecast: How Many More Storms?

Metro Atlanta has seen its share of showers and thunderstorms lately. See if this week will bring any relief from the constant downpours.

ATLANTA, GA — If you're checking in to find out when thunderstorms will stop pummeling metro Atlanta, you might want to sit down before reading the rest of this article.

Here's your work-week weather forecast in a nutshell: If you look outside and there is not a thunderstorm, there is probably going to be a thunderstorm the next time you check. That's right, the soggy days we've been getting aren't going away any time soon.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather advisory Monday morning warning that, once again, thunderstorms in north and central Georgia are likely to bring gusty winds, lightning and locally heavy rainfall. And they'll be back every single day between now and Sunday, the NWS said.

"On any given day, a few storms could be strong ...," the outlook says. "The best chance for thunderstorms each day will be during the afternoon and evening hours. Localized flooding will also be possible where storms remain over an area for prolonged periods."

The chance of rain will bounce back and forth between 50-60 percent every day this week.

Monday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southeast wind 5-10 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Monday night, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southeast wind around 5 m.p.h.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. South wind around 5 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm again Tuesday night before 8 p.m, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southeast wind around 5 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Wednesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind around 5 m.p.h. becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Wednesday night, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms again Thursday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.

Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms again Friday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
