Georgia Weather: Heavy Rains, Potential Storms Expected Through Tuesday Morning

BREAKING: Thunderstorms could include isolated tornadoes, occasional lightning, gusty winds and heavy rains, according to forecasters.

ATLANTA, GA — Isolated thunderstorms and flooding are possible Monday and Monday night across north and central Georgia, according to the National Weather Service.

Downtown Atlanta and communities to the west of the city are at a higher risk of storms. The stronger threat of flooding is south of the Atlanta metro.

The primary threat from thunderstorms will be isolated tornadoes, occasional lightning, gusty winds and heavy rains, according to the weather service statement. The best chance for storms will begin Monday afternoon after 1 p.m.

Areas across the region will see an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain fall through Tuesday morning. There's a slight chance for rain Tuesday afternoon.

The weather service is also monitoring a slight chance to see snow showers later this week.
