Northside Hospital has formally announced its long-awaited replacement hospital in Canton, which opens its doors in May. Northside Hospital Cherokee CEO Billy Hayes said of the new hospital, which is located at 450 Northside Cherokee Blvd., that "this is a huge move forward for Cherokee county and the surrounding area."

Cherokee HS Students Place In National Welding Competition

Cherokee High School welding students placed in a national competition, hosted by Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, and earned scholarships — ranging from $500 to $9,000 — for their success. Grant Blalock, Eric Cochran, Jack Elwell, Ed Herrera, Jacob Little and Damon Sheffield competed against 200 students from across the country.

Creekview HS Senior Earns Perfect ACT Score

Creekview High School senior Austin Miles achieved a perfect score on the ACT. He earned the top composite score on the February administration of the college entrance and placement test. An average of less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earns the top score, and only 2,235 out of the nearly 2.1 million students who took the exam in 2016 earned a perfect score.

Police Identify Man Killed in 4-Vehicle Crash

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the Canton resident who was killed late Friday, March 10 evening in a four-vehicle accident in the Hickory Flat community. A preliminary investigation revealed that a passenger vehicle, driven by Wendy Millican, 44, was traveling westbound on Highway 140 when it crossed the center line and collided with victim, who was going eastbound.

4 Named Title I Reward Schools In Bartow County

Four elementary schools in Bartow County have been named to the 2016-2017 list of Title I Reward Schools. Title I Reward Districts are named in four categories: large districts with 10,000 or more students, medium districts with 4,000 to 9,999 students, small districts with 2,000 to 3,999 students and extra-small districts with fewer than 2,000 students. Each Reward District receives a grant of $25,000 in additional federal funds.
