Lovett Students Win Trip To Alaska
Kendall Greene & Samuel Bell have both been awarded a trip to Haines, Alaska with Frank Ski Foundation for writing sustainability essays
From Lovett School: Lovett students Kendall Greene (Grade 9) and Samuel Amir Bell (Grade 10) are two of 11 students who have been selected to travel on The Frank Ski Kids Foundation Planet Green Science Excursion to Haines, Alaska, from June 18 to 24, 2017. The trip is part of the Foundation's Planet Green 2017: SUSTAINABILITY ALASKA, which seeks to raise awareness for Global Warming and Climate Change and its impact on our economy, health, and communities. The trip will provide hands-on opportunities for students to study the earth's fragile eco-system and the effects of Global Warming and Climate Change in Alaska. These “Sustainability Ambassadors” will become advocates for sustainability projects in their schools and local communities.
In order to be selected for this once-in-a-lifetime trip, students had to write an online essay of 500 words or less answering the question: "What are the effects that Global Warming has on our eco system in Alaska? And, how can those effects be cured through effective sustainability practices?" The Foundation then chose 20 students to present their essays in speech form in front of a panel of judges. The judges chose 11 finalists to travel on the Planet Green Trip to Alaska.
