In Loving Memory of Virginia Simpson Whitner, 94

Virginia Simpson Whitner, age 94, of Atlanta, died Friday, November 20, 2015. A native of Atlanta, she was born to Virginia Simpson and John Charles Whitner. She was an accomplished Research Scientist at the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) in Atlanta where she helped in developing the first Kidney Dialysis Machine. After her retirement from the CDC, she and Sue Lewis had a second career running a very successful cattle ranch breeding Black Angus receiving numerous accolades within the Angus Cattle community. Ms. Whitner then retired for the final time at the age of 90. With her infectious smile, kind heart, warm loving attitude, she was always willing to help and lend a hand. She was a beloved daughter, sister and friend that had a life well lived with dignity. Her smile and giving nature will be greatly missed by all those that knew her. Ms. Whitner is preceded in death by her loving parents; her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Whitner; and by her younger brother, Bubba. She is survived by family and friends. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 1 o’clock at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her memory to the Atlanta Humane Society
