Marcellus H. Dodd, 86: Founding Member of Cherokee Town & Country Club Had Legendary Backhand
Services for Mr. Dodd, who was a third generation native Atlantan and active member of the Buckhead Study Group, will be Thursday at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.

Marcellus Hallman Dodd, 86, a third generation native Atlantan, died peacefully on Dec. 14, 2013 after a brief illness.
Mr. Dodd was born in Atlanta. Following his graduation from Atlanta Boys' High School, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and was a member of Chi Phi fraternity. He proudly served his country in World War II, before beginning his lifelong career as an independent insurance agent specializing in group sales and investments.
Mr. Dodd was a charter founding member of Cherokee Town and Country Club where he was highly regarded as a tennis player exhibiting a legendary "backhand". A lifelong interest in automobiles and electronics was shared with his many friends who frequently sought his advice on their various purchases and repairs. He was an active member of the Buckhead Study Group. He was well known as the faithful organizer of breakfast and lunch groups for his many Buckhead friends, many of whom he had known since early childhood.
For many years he was an active member of North Avenue Presbyterian Church before moving his membership to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where he was a member of The Timothy Class.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Dodd Schuh; son in law William Anton Schuh; grandchildren: William Hallman Schuh and Vivian Frances Schuh. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Martha Ann Williamson Dodd. He was the son of the late Susan and Carl Dodd.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the church's hospitality suite. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the new youth building at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church or Crossroads Hospice of Atlanta.
