Marietta Coat Drive For Domestic Violence And Homeless Shelters

Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics is hosting its 12th annual coat drive. Drop off locations are in Marietta and 23 Atlanta locations.

MARIETTA, GA — The Marietta community is invited to participate in coat drive now through Nov. 5. The coats will be donated to domestic violence and homeless shelters across the Atlanta area.

Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics, one of the largest orthopaedic practices in the country, is hosting its 12th annual coat drive in Marietta at 61 Whitcher Street Suite 1100.

As a safety measure this year, Resurgens Orthopaedics asks that all donations be cleaned according to manufacturers’ specifications and bagged individually before drop off. Donations of new or gently used coats and blankets are needed.

“This year more than ever, we are pleased to offer our neighbors in need coats and blankets to keep them warm during the winter months” said Alex Bateman Resurgens Orthopaedics CEO in a news release. “As many people struggle with lower income due to the pandemic, we hope that we can help them feel some relief and let them know that we care about their well-being and that their neighbors do as well.”

The coat drive started as a small, local initiative in 2009 by Resurgens Orthopaedics’ Dr. Gary W. Stewart, who wanted to give back to the community around the holidays. It has grown over the years to become a practice-wide effort, with all 24 Resurgens Orthopaedics locations participating.

“What started out as a small, one location coat drive has evolved over the years into a practice-wide effort that involves all 24 Resurgens Orthopaedics locations” said Dr. Gary W. Stewart, Resurgens Orthopaedics physician. “This year, we invite everyone who is able to donate to stop by one of our locations to make a donation and feel confident that we have safety precautions in place to keep them safe. The local shelters who receive and distribute the coats and blankets do wonderful work and it is an honor to help them in this way each year.”
