Marjorie Little Doe, 83: Atlanta Native Dies in South Carolina

Services for the former Buckhead resident will be Dec. 28 in North Carolina.

Marjorie Little Doe, died on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 at St.Peter’s Nursing Center of Penick Village, Southern Pines, NC, from complications from a stroke three months short of her 84th birthday.

She was a long-term resident of North Springfield, VA, and was a secretary of Westinghouse Electric in Washington, DC, for more than 20 years. She moved to the Sandhills, NC area in 2005 and lived in Seven Lakes West for seven years before moving to Penick Village, Southern Pines, in 2013. She was born in the Atlanta, GA, area and grew up in the Buckhead suburb. She graduated from North Fulton High School and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, for two years.

She was married to Brig.Gen. James H. Mapp with whom she had three sons. During this marriage, she lived in many places including two years in Germany. The marriage ended in divorce. At the time of her death she was married to geologist, Dr. Bruce R. Doe, husband of more than 23 years.

Marjorie was famous for her lovely smile and her vitality prior to her first stroke on Christmas Eve of 2010. She loved tennis, bridge, and gardening. She was a member of several tennis groups including The Fairfax Country Golden Racquets and the Tennis Group of the Washington, D.C. area. She received a Volunteer of the Year from the Fairfax, Virginia Symphony Orchestra and was serving as the treasurer of the Seven Lakes Garden Club, NC, at the time of her first stroke. She also was active in the Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care in Southern Pines, NC, but the stroke took its toll.

Marjorie is survived by her husband; two sons by her first marriage, James H. Mapp II of Herndon, VA, and Michael Mapp of Pasadena, MD, four grandchildren: James H. Mapp III of Williston, FL; Geoffrey Mapp of Sterling, VA, Stephen Mapp of Herndon, VA; and Melanie Mapp of Pasadena, MD; and four great grandchildren: Ava, Landon, Campbell, and Benjamin Mapp. She was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Mapp.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. at West End Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West End Presbyterian Church, 324 Knox Ln., West End, NC 27376 or to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Building B, Centennial, CO 80112.
