One Woman's Makeover Brings $5K for Breast Cancer Screenings, Support

The Marietta nurse was chosen out of more than 60,000 U.S. entries for the Mary Kay grant, which will be used by Buckhead-based Komen Atlanta.

One woman can make a difference in the Greater Atlanta community. Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta is receiving a $5,000 grant thanks to Razi Alvandpour, a nurse in Marietta, who was chosen out of more than 60,000 entries from across the U.S. as a winner of Mary Kay Inc.’s One Woman Can Global Makeover Contest.

Alvandpour submitted before and after photos of her makeover, as well as a brief statement about her passion for Komen Atlanta’s support of breast cancer awareness and prevention to enter the contest.

Komen Atlanta will use its $5,000 grant from Mary Kay Inc. to provide free and low cost breast screenings, mammograms, diagnostic testing, education and treatment support for women in metro Atlanta who could not otherwise afford these life-saving services.

“We are grateful to Razi Alvandpour for her dedication to our cause, and to Mary Kay Inc. for providing her with this opportunity,” said Cati Stone, executive director of Komen Atlanta. “The funds provided by Mary Kay, and through Razi’s kindness, will be used to enable women in metro Atlanta to detect and survive breast cancer.”

In honor of Mary Kay Inc.’s 50th anniversary, 50 contest winners each received a $5,000 grant as a tribute to company founder Mary Kay Ash, who started the company with only $5,000 and a dream to enrich the lives of women around the world.
