Ransomware Attack Discovered At WestRock

The Sandy Springs packaging company is working to recover from affects to its operational, informational systems

SANDY SPRINGS — Sandy Springs-based packaging company WestRock suffered a ransomware attack over the weekend, according to reports.

Company officials said ransomware was detected Saturday, affecting certain of its operational and information technology systems, BusinessWire is reporting. Response and containment protocols were initiated and the company engaged a cyber security firm to mitigate the issue. Law enforcement also was contacted.

Systems recovery efforts are in process and being implemented as quickly as possible, and teams are working to maintain the Company’s business operations and to minimize the impact on its customers and teammates,” according to a statement reported in Security Weekly.

WestRock’s value dropped Monday after reporting of the breach went public, according to reports.
