Three Beach Adventures that are Better in Winter

Here are three reasons to plan your next beach vacation during the colder months, because sometimes, the coast is even better in the winter.

The weather has been unseasonably warm lately, but it’s sure to cool down anytime soon. And when it does, it’s a great time to visit the beach. Here are three beach adventures that are better in winter.

Crystal River Plantation, Fla. January and February are prime months to swim with manatee, the gentle sea cows that live along the coast. In Florida’s springs, the manatee gathers to keep warm, and greet visitors. It’s an amazing experience that will make you forget the chilly temperatures outside.

Cumberland Island, Ga. We camped on Cumberland Island over New Years and it was a fantastic way to ring in 2017, and the cooler temperatures kept the island bugs away too. If camping isn’t your thing, you can also stay at the elegant Greyfield Inn, or to save money, stay on the mainland and take a ferry over to the island for a day trip.

Little St. Simon’s Island, Ga. Another beautiful secluded Georgia island is Little St. Simons. This private, undeveloped coastal destination has pristine beaches, and lots of nature activities, as well as amazing food. In January and February you can indulge for the lowest rates of the year.

Not a beach fan? Then winter is also a great time to visit a dude ranch. Just 90 minutes outside of Atlanta is Southern Cross Guest Ranch. They offer overnight accommodations, as well as day rides. They have some great deals going for winter too.
