Westminster Soccer Coach Named National Coach of the Year
Scott Snyder was honored with the 2018 National Coach of the Year Award by United Soccer Coaches.

ATLANTA, GA – Scott Snyder, Westminster varsity boys soccer head coach and middle school history teacher, has been honored with the 2018 National Coach of the Year Award by United Soccer Coaches. United Soccer Coaches, a national association of youth, high school, collegiate, and professional coaches, named Snyder the private and parochial high school boys soccer coach of the year.
Snyder has 28 years of coaching experience at the college, high school, club, and Olympic Development Program levels. For the past 20 years, he has served as the varsity boys soccer head coach at Westminster, where his teams have won eight Georgia High School Association state championships. This past spring, the state championship-winning boys team had a 22-0-1 record and finished the season ranked fourth nationally in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings by United Soccer Coaches. Snyder also serves as the Georgia Chair for the United Soccer Coaches High School All-American teams.
“I am honored and humbled to be named National Coach of the Year,” said Snyder. “While I will be the one accepting the award, it is truly a team award and a great achievement for Westminster’s soccer program. I would not be here today without the support of the athletic department and the efforts of my assistant coaches: Gerry Romberg, Sharon Loughran, Steven Drinkell, and David Dwyer. This achievement would not be possible with them or all of my students and their hard work throughout the years.”

“This is a wonderful and well-deserved recognition for Scott and his commitment to our Westminster students, the teacher-coach model, and the sport of soccer,” says Westminster Director of Athletics Tim Downes. “Scott would be the first to share this honor with his coaching staff and point to his true success as the impact that being a member of the soccer program has had on the growth and development of his scholar-athletes during and beyond their time at Westminster.”
The National Coach of the Year will be recognized at an awards banquet on Friday, January 11, 2019, during the United Soccer Coaches Convention at McCormick Place West in Chicago.
