Westminster​ Students Win National Debate Championship

In a field of 166 students from 16 states, Mary Bryce Brannen and Harrison Hall won 10 of their 11 90-minute policy debates.

From Westminster: Westminster is pleased to announce seniors Mary Bryce Brannen and Harrison Hall won first place at the National Debate Coaches Association (NDCA) National Championship in Ogden, Utah.

In a field of 166 students from 16 states, Brannen and Hall won ten of their eleven 90-minute policy debates, eventually defeating number-one ranked Montgomery Bell Academy of Nashville, Tennessee in the finals on a 3-0 decision.

Brannen and Hall are currently ranked seventh nationally—out of more than 2,000 pairs of students—for their overall season performance since September 2016. Hall also ranked within the top ten pairs last year as a junior.

The team's last competition of the year will be the Tournament of Champions April 29-May 1 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Westminster has won the Tournament of Champions five times since 2005, most recently in 2015, and last won the NDCA National Championship in 2014.
