Could the Atlanta Braves become owned by a group of Yahoos?

An offer from the chairman of Liberty Media -- owner of the Braves -- to merge one of his companies with Yahoo is still being considered, even though the offer didn't make an official short list of 10 bidders.

Yahoo, which has been downsizing, cutting costs and laying off employees as its Internet business shrinks, is leaning toward cash offers. But Liberty Media Chairman John Malone's offer is still being considered by the company, reports CNBC.

Yahoo reportedly has shortlisted its list of bidders to 10 offers. An unnamed source gave the information to CNBC. Liberty Media did not respond to CNBC's request for a comment.

Malone and Liberty Media have been ridiculed in the Atlanta media lately, after Malone did an interview with the AJC in which he referred to the team as "a fairly major real-estate business as opposed to just a baseball club.”

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei also told the AJC that the Braves have been "a great, great asset" for the company.

Liberty Media, based in Colorado, has owned the Braves since 2007. The franchise, which currently a major league worst record of 5-17, also has Major League Baseball's 26th lowest payroll out of its 30 teams.
