Cherokee Charter Academy Middle School Beta Club students Ashelyn Carden and Alaina Howard attended the National Beta Club Conference in Orlando, Florida to compete in the Service Snapshot competition. This competition requires students to create and implement a service project that benefits their community. CCA Beta students created Easter baskets for Never Alone Ministries to share with children the week before Easter. They collected donations of basket grass, chocolates, jelly beans, bubble toys, stuffed animals and gift cards to fill the baskets. In all, 50 baskets were created and donated. Alaina Howard came up with the Easter basket idea and after attending the Beta national conference said, “I loved sharing our ideas with so many people.”
CCA Beta students first presented their project at Beta Leadership Summit in Jekyll Island in March which qualified them to present at the National Conference along with 25 other elementary, middle and high schools from across the country. They were given 3 minutes to explain their project to the judges, tell how they came up with it, and how it was implemented. Judging criteria focused on students' collaboration, communication of ideas and presentation skills. CCA Beta student Ashelyn Carden said, “It was an amazing experience I’ll never forget! I learned a lot and made so many friends!”
