CCA Student Story: Charter School Uses Falcons Fever to Help Storm Victims

This story is from Cherokee Charter Academy 8th Grader Mackenzie Begley

"One of the unique things about Cherokee Charter Academy, a public charter school in Canton, is that students wear uniforms. CCA had a special non-uniform day on February 3rd to raise money to help the victims of recent severe weather in South Georgia. On the eve of the Super Bowl, CCA students and staff could pay a dollar to wear t-shirts or team colors of the Falcons or Patriots. The $500 raised is being sent to the Dougherty County School System to aid those affected by the storms. Most schools in that county were only recently able to reopen after working to help their community. Albany Middle School accepted donations of hygiene products, clothing and nonperishable food, and the school system as a whole set up a relief fund for those in need. Cherokee Charter Academy has a history of helping those within our own school, but we also want to support our community and aid those in need whenever we can. The school has had fundraising events for the flooding in Louisiana and this is another opportunity to expand our desire to help others."
