Celebrating National Beta Club Week at Cherokee Charter Academy
This story is from CCA sixth grader & middle school Beta Club Secretary, Ashelyn Carden

This week is National Beta Club Week and Cherokee Charter Academy is so happy to be participating. The school has done a lot of projects this school year to help the community and Cherokee Charter.
Since the school opened in 2011, Cherokee Charter Academy has participated in National Beta Club, a student organization that teaches kids leadership, honesty, justice, service, cooperation, responsibility, industriousness, humility, and charity. At Cherokee Charter, Beta Club students must maintain an A or B average in all classes, complete 20 service hours yearly, and be in fourth through eighth grade.
This year Cherokee Charter Academy’s Beta Club has already completed many service projects both in and out of school. The service projects include being teacher assistants, reading to younger students, tutoring kindergartners with sight words, assisting with school events, recycling and fundraising.

Some of the school events Beta Club has helped with include coordinating a pajama day to raise money for The Center for Children & Young Adults, the school’s annual fall festival, Charterstock, Bingo Night, and school dances.
One of CCA Beta Club’s biggest charity activities was a canned food drive where we collected more than 1,100 cans of food for Never Alone Ministry in only a couple of weeks.

Beta Club students have visited the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, where we learned how to volunteer and make donations. CCA Beta is volunteering at Goshen Valley Boys Ranch this month and helping with an ice cream social at Cameron Hall.
This year Cherokee Charter Academy middle school students will attend the National Beta Club’s Leadership Summit on Jekyll Island, Georgia. “I’m so excited to be going to Leadership Summit. It’ll be so much fun to meet other Beta Club members from different schools,” said CCA middle school Beta Club Vice President Alaina Howard.
For National Beta Club Week, Cherokee Charter Beta had events and service projects going on all week. Monday was the BePawsitive food drive, on Tuesday Beta Club students recognized outstanding teachers and staff, Wednesday we honored and thanked the officers who direct traffic and keep us safe with gifts and cards, on Thursday two special teachers became honorary Beta Club members and on Friday, all Beta Club students wore black and gold and brought in desserts for the school staff.
Cherokee Charter Academy’s National Beta Club is planning even more projects this school year and was proud to celebrate National Beta Club Week.
National Beta Club started in 1934 with a mission is to promote academic achievement, character, service, and leadership. Beta Club was founded by Dr. John W. Harris; National Beta Club Week was started in 1973.
