Cherokee Charter 3rd Graders in the Egg Business
This story is from CCA Third Grader Dana Ledbetter
"Third graders at Cherokee Charter Academy are learning how to take care of chickens. We have learned how to feed them, how to give them water and how to clean the coop. We know what kind of treats to give them and how to hold and grab a chicken. We collect their eggs every day of the week. We also keep track of the number of eggs each day on a chalk board in the hall. Third grade has learned the difference between a breakfast egg and fertilized eggs. We are incubating 20 fertilized eggs to study the life cycle of the chicken. Third graders are now selling the eggs that the chickens have laid. We are doing this because we are learning about supply and demand. The eggs can be purchased every Friday at afternoon carpool. Half a dozen costs $3 and a dozen costs $5. The money made from selling eggs will help take care of the chickens."
