Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) attended the Twilight Camp at Fellowship Church in Hickory Flat, on Thursday, June 10th.  This is a week-long camp where boy scouts come to learn new skills and have some fun along the way.  CCFES was invited to come teach the boys and girls some important lessons about fire prevention and safety.  They were given a tour of the fire truck by some of CCFES’s finest and also shown all the gear a firefighter must wear while battling fires or other situations.  The Community Risk Reduction (CRR) staff taught the children about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, how to get out of a fire safely and when to STOP, DROP and ROLL.  Even the adults learned a few new tricks.  They ended the week with the fire truck returning and spraying down all the boys and girls and sending them home soaking wet and smiling.  Lisa Grisham, with the CRR team said, “This is how kids learn.  In a fun, engaging way.  And how muscle memory is created in the case of a real emergency.  We are thankful this group invited us to share these important lessons.”
