Lisa Grisham, Senior Fire Educator with the Fire and Life Safety Division of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and Kim Whatley, Aquatics Division Director with Cherokee Recreation and Parks presented a proclamation last Tuesday night to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners asking them to proclaim May as Water Safety Month. Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign that encourages safe, enjoyable aquatic activities to the American public, from home pools and spas, to water parks and resorts, to public swimming and water recreation facilities. The proclamation encourages the public to: The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners signed the pledge with Chairman, Harry Johnston, and Commissioner Benny Carter wearing life jackets to support the cause. Grisham stated that this was a joint effort between Cherokee Recreation and Parks, Aquatic Center and Safe Kids Cherokee County which Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is the Lead Agency for the organization.
