The latest paramedic class with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is studying about immunologic emergencies and infectious diseases this week at the fire training center. Emergency providers will face immunologic emergencies that can range from mild allergic reactions to life-threatening anaphylaxis. Infectious diseases are disorders caused by organisms — such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Many organisms live in and on our bodies. They're normally harmless or even helpful. But under certain conditions, some organisms may cause disease. Some of the most well-known infectious diseases include Hepatitis A B C D & E, pneumonia, HIV/AIDS, meningitis and tuberculosis. According to Training Officer, Kristina Wigington, “The class is being taught about treatments, how to protect ourselves and how to prevent transmission.” The class on immunologic emergencies and infectious diseases is being held for two days.
