Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and the Cherokee County Hazardous Materials Team responded to an AmeriGas Propane Gas Truck that overturned on Highway 140, between Avery Road and Stella Drive, at approximately 8:30 this morning. Cherokee County firefighters arrived on the scene to find the vehicle had gone down an embankment and landed on its side. The propane truck contained about 26-2700 gallons and was at 80 percent capacity when the accident occurred. Georgia Highway 140 was blocked and approximately 9 homes in the area were evacuated. Representatives from Mauldin’s Wrecker and Towing Service were able to upright the truck and bring in back to the top of the roadway. Georgia Highway 140 was reopened at approximately 1:30 this afternoon. The 25-year-old driver of the truck was not injured in the accident. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a cause of the accident.
