Last week, firefighters and members with the Fire and Life Safety Division of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services visited with residents of Poplar Valley Mobile Home Park, located at 5655 Highway 92, in Acworth, to check out their smoke alarms.   Lisa Grisham, Senior Fire Educator with the department, stated, “Right now we are working with owners of mobile home parks because, they are at higher risk (generally).”  For the mobile home parks, they do a pre-visit to let the residents know when they will be there on a certain day.  “When we go out we will check for smoke alarms and check batteries in existing alarms.  We do this in conjunction with the closest fire station crew.  For the neighborhoods that are not at risk we ask them to have batteries ready for us to swap out, and, if we find a problem with the alarm, we discuss options and come back out to assist if necessary,” added Grisham. For the neighborhoods, or anyone that need assistance, the Fire and Life Safety Division can provide smoke alarms and (or) batteries.  They can also make individual appointments with people to do a safety check of their home, too. Lt. Eric Robidou and Milton Zapeta, firefighters at a neighboring fire station, came out to assist Beth Elder and Lisa Grisham with the Fire and Life Safety Division, with the Smoke Alarm Blitz. To make an appointment or for more information, contact the Fire and Life Safety Division at (678) 493-6296.
