Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire yesterday morning, shortly after 4:30, at 3041 Kellogg Creek Road in southwestern Cherokee County. A passerby contacted Cherokee County 911 to report smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure. Battalion Chief, Chad Davis, stated, “Engine 19 arrived on scene at to find a home with heavy fire involvement on the first floor and attic with reports of occupants still inside.” Fire crews quickly deployed handlines for fire attack and began searching for the reported occupants. Members of Engine 20 assisted an elderly male out of an uninvolved basement apartment while firefighters from Engine 19 and Squad1 located the second occupant at the front door as she attempted to exit the home. Both occupants received treatment on scene and were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Cheri Collett, reported that the female patient had smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. The male patient had smoke inhalation injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
